The State Project Coordinator of the Gombe State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, for the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, describing the move as a strategic step towards consolidating the gains recorded in the livestock sector and ensuring the sustainability of ongoing reforms and investments.
In a statement, Professor Abubakar noted that the livestock sector remains one of the most important pillars of Gombe State's economy, providing livelihoods for thousands of households and contributing significantly to food security, employment generation and economic growth.
According to him, the establishment of a dedicated ministry demonstrates Governor Inuwa Yahaya's foresight and commitment to accelerating livestock development through effective policy coordination, institutional strengthening and focused implementation of sector-specific programmes.
"The livestock sector is a critical component of our economy and a major source of livelihood for a large segment of the population. The creation of a dedicated ministry will provide the necessary institutional framework to fast-track its development and maximize its contribution to economic growth and improved livelihoods," he stated.
Professor Abubakar observed that the new ministry comes at a time when the state is implementing several landmark livestock and agribusiness projects, including the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone, comprising an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery and leather processing facility, poultry production units, grains and feed market, among other strategic investments.
He added that the ministry would play a vital role in coordinating these initiatives, strengthening value chains and driving the overall transformation of the livestock industry in the state.
The Coordinator further noted that the alignment of Gombe State's livestock develop
ment agenda with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda and the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development places the state in a strong position to attract investments, leverage partnerships and successfully implement livestock development programmes.
Professor Abubakar assured the new ministry of the full support and cooperation of the Gombe State L-PRES Project in advancing Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's vision of building a modern, productive and commercially viable livestock sector capable of creating jobs, generating wealth and improving the livelihoods of citizens.
