New Era of Animal Healthcare in Gombe State as L-PRES Revitalizes Kaltungo Veterinary Clinic
24/2/2025
As part of the ongoing efforts to modernize veterinary infrastructure and improve livestock healthcare services in Gombe State, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has successfully renovated the Kaltungo Veterinary Clinic, transforming it into a fully equipped and functional facility.
The once dilapidated facility, previously unfit for veterinary care, has undergone a complete transformation. The renovation included a full structural overhaul, construction of designated rooms for large and small ruminants, a rabies treatment room, staff offices, toilet facilities, and the installation of a perimeter fencing wall for enhanced security.
The clinic is now fully equipped to provide efficient and effective veterinary services to livestock farmers and animal health professionals.
This intervention is a key component of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to revitalizing the livestock subsector, making it more resilient, productive, and profitable.
Under his administration, L-PRES has rehabilitated the Gombe Veterinary Clinic, upgrading it to a full-fledged hospital, renovated the Dukku Veterinary Clinic, and modernized abattoirs in Gombe, Kumo, and Bajoga. Additionally, nine livestock and livebird markets have been established across the state.
These projects serve as critical preparations for the forthcoming Gombe Ultra-Modern Abattoir and International Livestock Market, a groundbreaking facility that will include a fattening hub, tannery, and leather factory—the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria.
This ambitious initiative is set to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and position Gombe State as a leader in livestock production and processing in
the region.
