Gombe To Overhaul Veterinary Clinics For Improved Vet Services.

….As L-PRES Project Hands Over Dukku Area Veterinary Clinic To Contractor For Rehabilitation & Construction of Additional Facilities.

In continuation of Gombe State L-PRES Project commitment to reposition the livestock sector in the state, the Project Coordinator Prof. U.B. Abubakar represented by the Project Engineer Sameer Shehu has handed over veterinary clinic project sites to Aurora Space Limited, the firm that will handle the rehabilitation of Dukku Area veterinary office to a befitting standard.
 
Speaking in Dukku, shortly after the handing over, Engineer Sameer said the exercise is contained in the Project’s 2024 workplan and Budget to improve the quality of the existing veterinary clinics in the state to provide quality animal health care services as part of Gombe state livestock reform agenda to make the sector more attractive and competitive for businesses and investments to enhance income generation for both livestock farmers and other actors in the value chain.
 
Prof Abubakar highlighted that with support from the National L-PRES Project Office and the World Bank, Gombe state is on high pedestal towards achieving these objectives of making the state the center of modern livestock business activities not only in the country but at the global livestock arena.
He then called on livestock farmers in Dukku and other stakeholders in the area to support the efforts of the state Governor Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to restore the lost glory of the livestock industry known for its historic contributions to the economy of northern Nigeria.
 
Outlining the areas earmarked for the intervention, Engineer Sameer explained that the main clinic will be re-modelled to meet modern requirements to provide modern veterinary services, while renovation of staff office and construction of dog kennel (isolation center) as well as construction of toilet facilities will be carried out.
 
Receiving the L-PRES team the Veterinary Officer in charge of Dukku Veterinary Area Office, Mallam Ibrahim Jalo Hamma and his staff expressed appreciation for the intervention which they described as timely and pledged to make good use of the facility to improve animal health in the area.
 
The social safeguard officer to the project Barr. Naomi Mwalin Abdu who was also part of the team held a stakeholders engagement meeting with the staff of the clinic on the need to form a community based Grievance Redress committee that will tackle emerging Social issues or challenges during and after the project implementation period.
