Gombe State Livestock Productivity sensitized and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has sensitized livestock farmers across 11 Local Government Areas of the state on the adoption of artificial insemination and improved breeding techniques for more productivity and profitability.

 

Welcoming the participants at Abmar Hall the venue for the training, the Project Coordinator Professor U.B. Abubakar emphasized that the training was to create more awareness on the need for livestock farmers to embrace modern livestock breeding techniques considering their potentials to enhance animal fertility, maximize livestock population and profits across the livestock value chain.

 

Professor Abubakar said, “Adoption of artificial insemination practices will increase yields in livestock, enhance quality and quantity of beef, milk and other dairy products”.

 

He described the traditional approach as less productive and waste of scarce resources without tangible results and charged livestock farmers to embrace modern approach to further create additional value chain business opportunities in the sector sighting the formation of cooperative societies and its capacity to accommodating milk collectors, transporters and more actors thereby generating more employment and jobs for women and youth in the state.

 

He also called on livestock farmers to make good use of the follow up training on “Management of Cooperative Societies”  which he described as critical to the success of these initiatives and the overall project objectives in order to achieve better outcomes.

 

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Jalo attended the event on behalf of the ministry.

 

Different variety of seedlings were distributed to participants to promote pasture development and environmental sustainability.

 

The Chairman MACBAN, Modibbo Yahaya, the Chairman Miyetti ALLAH Kautol Hore Socio Cultural Association Gombe state chapter Alhaji Chindo Abubakar and Ahmad Bello Chairman Jonde Jam Youth Organization are among those who witnessed the event.
