6 August, 2024.
The Project Coordinator Gombe State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) Professor Usman Bello Abubakar has today inaugurated the management level Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) at the Conference Hall of the L-PRES Coordination Office.
The Project Coordinator charged members of the committee to immediately develop an action plan including any other thing they may require to ensure a successful take off of the committee.
He implored them on the need to align their responsibilities with factors like the culture, norms, traditions and values of people in the communities they operate.
He said their mandate is to receive any form of grievance related to the livestock sector including issues that may emanate within the PIU so that they can be investigated, analyzed and properly resolved amicably in accordance with the approved guidelines and theTerms Of Reference (TOR).
He cited the Project Appraisal Document (PAD) which recommended that a GRC shall be constituted within the State Coordination Office that will receive, hear and address complaints arising from the project and called on all project staff to support the committee.
In her presentation the Social Safeguard Officer to the L-PRES Project Barrister Mwalin Naomi Abdu had earlier highlighted the responsibilities of the committee which includes receiving and registering of grievances from Stakeholders as well as documentation and maintaining records of grievances and resolutions among others.
She explained that the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) was a platform introduced to ensure that concerns and issues related to project beneficiaries and stakeholders are heard and addressed in the best interest of all parties involved.
She further hinted that similar committees will be established at both state and community levels to provide a coordinated approach towards resolving emerging challenges in the process of project implementation.
The committee at the project management level consists of seven members with the Social Safeguard Officer as the team leader.
