The enumeration of operators in the livestock value chain has continued for the third day across communities in the eleven local Government areas of Gombe State.

 

Progress report from the field shows people lining up in their respective places of businesses waiting for their turn to be enumerated.

 

In Filiya and Bagunji in Shogom local government, kaltungo and Billiri as well as Gombe, Dukku and Nafada also recorded impressive turn out with women constituting large numbers in line with the directive given by the Project Coordinator Professor Usman Bello Abubakar that women and people with disabilities should be given top priority during the exercise.

 

Some of those who spoke expressed appreciation with the development and commended the state government and the L-PRES Project for coming to rescue the livestock industry that has faced considerable neglect in the past.

 

Butchers in Gombe lamented the deplorable condition under which they operated and complained that previous administrations intervention targeted only farmers and excluded the livestock sector that contributed immensely to the economy.

 

They noted that the introduction of the L-PRES project has renewed their hope and commended the project for the rehabilitation of slaughter slabs in different locations in the state to improve sanitation and healthy beef production.

 

They expressed hope that the L-PRES intervention which encompassed all actors in the value chain including livestock producers, processors, marketers and transporters will go along way to revitalize and transform the sector into a more competitive and income generating business

Earlier before the commencement of the exercise the enumeration teams with their supervisors have paid advocacy visits to Local Government Chairmen and Community Leaders to solicit their support and blessings to ensure successful exercise.
