…L-PRES Coordinator Charges Contractor on Quality, Timely Delivery
The Gombe State Government has officially handed over a one-hectare parcel of land for the construction of a Modern Veterinary Hospital within the 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone, in a move aimed at strengthening livestock productivity and improving animal health services across the state.
The site handover ceremony, held at the project location, marked another milestone in the livestock transformation agenda of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and followed the approval and award of the project by the National Coordination Office of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
Speaking at the event, the Gombe State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, explained that the veterinary hospital would be a fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility designed to operate on a digital platform.
According to him, the hospital will be constructed on a one-hectare plot and fitted with modern laboratories, clinical diagnostic units, ambulatory services, and other specialised veterinary care facilities and equipment.
“The facility is not merely a clinic but a full-fledged veterinary hospital that will serve as a referral centre for animal health services in Gombe State. It will be accessible to both public and private veterinary practitioners and will operate a digitised system that allows livestock farmers anywhere in the state to request veterinary services remotely,” Prof. Abubakar said.
He added that the hospital is expected to be completed within six months and will significantly enhance animal health service delivery, boost livestock productivity, and support the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
The L-PRES Coordinator further noted that the hospital is strategically located within the Agro-Livestock Development Zone, where Governor Inuwa Yahaya has already initiated major livestock infrastructure projects, including the International Livestock Market and the Ultra-Modern Abattoir.
He disclosed that the zone is also planned to accommodate other key facilities such as a Beef Fattening Hub, Tannery and Leather Processing Factory, International Grains Market, and a Dry Inland Port, positioning it as a comprehensive agro-industrial and livestock development hub.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas M. Malle, commended the National L-PRES Coordinator and the Gombe State L-PRES team for facilitating the project.
He explained that the Agro-Livestock Development Zone was deliberately conceived by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to serve as a central hub for livestock and agricultural development in the state.
“This 184-hectare zone was earmarked by His Excellency to ensure that major livestock and agricultural infrastructure is concentrated in one location. Out of this land, one hectare has been specifically allocated for the construction of this Modern Veterinary Hospital,” Dr. Malle said.
The Commissioner stressed that Governor Inuwa Yahaya places a high premium on quality delivery and effective supervision, noting that the Governor personally monitors the progress of critical projects across the state.
“As a hardworking leader determined to leave an enduring legacy, His Excellency will visit this project site from time to time – sometimes unannounced – to assess progress. This assignment must therefore be executed strictly in line with approved specifications,” he warned.
Dr. Malle assured that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure the project’s successful and timely completion for the benefit of livestock farmers across Gombe State.
Also speaking, the representative of the contractor, BP Sany Co. Nigeria Limited, Architect Hamza Yahaya, assured stakeholders of quality workmanship and timely delivery of the project in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
Similarly, the Project Consultant, Architect Muhammad Nafi’u Abubakar, who represented ABISS Associates Limited, pledged strict adherence to the approved designs, technical specifications, and construction standards throughout the execution of the project.
The modern veterinary hospital was awarded to Gombe State by the National Coordination Office of L-PRES to further strengthen ongoing livestock investments in the state and promote a more productive, resilient, and profitable livestock sector.
