Gombe State Earmarks 30 Hectares For International Livestock Market

Gombe State Government has earmarked 30 hectres of land for construction of Gombe International Livestock Market and Ultra Modern Abattoir.
The Director General Gombe Geographical Information Systems (GoGiS) Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan made this known during a stakeholders engagement meeting with community leaders, local Government officials and owners farmlands and property at the proposed site of the projects at Jauro Abare Village.
The Director General was represented at the meeting by the Director Lands Hajiya Zainab Salisu to discuss modalities for acquisition and compensation for farmlands for the said projects and assured that people would be fully compensated.
Welcoming participants at the event the Secretary Gombe local government Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Dawakin Gombe said the purpose of the meeting was to create awareness and solicit public support for the projects.
He commended the State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for his foresight to introduce such ambitious projects in Gombe State that hold great potentials for investment and job creation in the livestock industry.
He explained that the state Government will come up with a compensation plan for owners of farmlands and urged them to consider Gombe state first, by making sacrifices where necessary considering the importance of the project to create jobs opportunities for youth in their communities.
In a brief overview, State Coordinator Gombe L-PRES Project, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar hinted that the International livestock market will serve as a regional hub for livestock businesses, equipped with modern facilities and conveniences including banks and accomodations for prospective clients to ease business activities and generate revenue for the state.
He said the Ultra Modern Abattoir on the other will be imbedded with the latest technology to improve production, processing, marketing and transportation of livestock products and services to both national and global markets.
He said the focus of the L-PRES Project is introduce modern livestock practices in line with global trends to maximize beef and dairy production and called on livestock farmers and all value chain actors to support the initiative.
In his remarks, the Land Officer Gombe local Government Mallam Ibrahim Mohamed said, “the land belongs to the Government, owned by people but government will collect it to serve public interest”
He clarified that, in due course the Government will come out with a formula to assess every piece of land and make compensation to owners accordingly and urged them cooperate to ensure the success of the exercise.
In a remark, the Chairman Gombe Local Government Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna thanked the people of Jauro Abare community for the warm reception accorded to stakeholders at the meeting.
He commended the State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for the choice of Gombe LGA in citing the projects and attributed it to its central location and accessibility pledging to stand firmly to ensure its successful implementation.
Community leaders including the Overseer Gombe Senior District Office, Alhaji Shettima Usman (Shettiman Gombe), and the Village Head of Jauro Abare, Alhaji Sale Adamu Damji all commended the State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa for introducing such a laudable project in Gombe State and assure him their support at all times.
