\u2026Project Expected to Unlock Jobs, Private Investment, and Dairy Value Chain Opportunities<\/div><\/div>
The Gombe State Government, through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, has advanced plans for the establishment of a modern dairy production and processing facility following a joint site assessment in parts of Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.<\/div><\/div>
The inspection team, led by the State Project Coordinator of Gombe L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar<\/a><\/span>, alongside officials from the Office of the Surveyor-General, technical experts, local government representatives, and community leaders, visited the proposed site to determine its suitability for the project.<\/div><\/div>
Speaking during the inspection, Professor Abubakar said the visit formed part of the project's commitment to ensuring that all technical, environmental, and social requirements are met before implementation.<\/div><\/div>
He disclosed that Gombe L-PRES has already conducted comprehensive feasibility studies, developed a business model for the proposed dairy industry, and completed environmental and social safeguard assessments, including soil and water analyses.<\/div><\/div>
According to him, findings from the assessments would be presented to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for further consideration and approval of the next phase of implementation.<\/div><\/div>
Professor Abubakar explained that the proposed dairy processing facility is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate wealth creation, and position Gombe State as a major player in Nigeria's dairy industry in alignment with governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's livestock reforms drive.<\/div><\/div>
\"The ultimate goal is to commercialise the dairy value chain and attract private sector investment into livestock production and processing. The market for dairy products extends beyond Gombe State and Nigeria, with significant opportunities across West Africa and neighbouring countries,\" he said.<\/div><\/div>
The State Project Coordinator noted that the project builds on several interventions already implemented by Gombe L-PRES to strengthen dairy production across the state.<\/div><\/div>
He revealed that the project has established, trained and supported 55 dairy producers cooperative societies, provided artificial insemination services and distributed value addition materials to dairy farmers to improved dairy management practices.<\/div><\/div>
Professor Abubakar further disclosed that, the project has also establish milk collection centres within participating cooperatives to facilitate aggregation and transportation of raw milk to the processing facility.<\/div><\/div>
He added that the state government is also establishing an Artificial Insemination and Genetics Improvement Centre at Gombe State University to provide local access to improved semen and breeding technologies, reducing dependence on imported genetic materials and enhancing livestock productivity.<\/div><\/div>
According to him, these integrated interventions are expected to significantly improve milk production and create a sustainable supply base for the proposed processing plant.<\/div><\/div>
The Surveyor-General of Gombe State, Surveyor Zakari Isah Kwami, said his office had been engaged to identify and properly delineate the proposed project site, which spans parts of Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.<\/div><\/div>
He explained that technical surveys would be conducted to determine the exact boundaries of the land and facilitate the preparation of the necessary documentation for the project.<\/div><\/div>
Surveyor Zakari noted that the exercise would ensure a transparent and conflict-free process capable of supporting the successful implementation of the investment.<\/div><\/div>
Representatives of the host communities, including the Village Head of Yame in Kwami Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdu Barde Jibir, and the representative of the Village Head of Guywa in Funakaye Local Government Area, Alhaji Ishiyaku Khalid, expressed appreciation to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and Gombe L-PRES for selecting the area for the project.<\/div><\/div>
The community leaders described the proposed dairy factory as a transformative initiative capable of generating employment, stimulating economic activities, and improving livelihoods across the area.<\/div><\/div>They assured the government and prospective investors of their full support and cooperation, pledging to provide a peaceful and conducive environment for the successful execution and operation of the project. <\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
