Gombe L-PRES Organizes Five-Days Training for One Health Officers<\/h2><\/div>

…As Gombe State Governor Charges Stakeholders to Adopt a Unified Approach to Addressing Animal and Human Diseases.<\/h2>

The Gombe State Government, under the L-PRES Project, has conducted a two-day training workshop for One Health Officers on the National Action Plan on Health Security (NAPHS) Implementation, One Health Risk Communication, and Antimicrobial Resistance.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
Speaking at the event, Gombe State Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas Malle, representing Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, commended the L-PRES Project for organizing such an important training that brought together veterinary and human health professionals, along with other stakeholders in the health sector, to discuss antimicrobial resistance and other critical public health issues under the One Health platform.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
The Commissioner announced that the State Government would soon receive medical facilities that would benefit both human and animal health practitioners, leading to improved healthcare services in the state.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
Dr. Barnabas Malle emphasized that the collaboration between human and animal health sectors demonstrates the state government’s renewed commitment to a multidisciplinary approach to addressing public health issues that affect both humans and animals.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
The Commissioner praised the Gombe L-PRES Project for its laudable initiatives to transform the sector and assured continued support for one health initiatives and the creation of a platform that will foster harmonious collaboration among all stakeholders to promote public health in the state.<\/div><\/div>
In his welcome address, the National Coordinator of the L-PRES Project, Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, represented by the Gombe L-PRES Project Coordinator, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, highlighted the concept of One Health as a commitment to promoting a holistic approach to animal, human, and environmental health.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
Professor Abubakar emphasized that the One Health concept recognizes the interconnectedness of these three aspects of health and seeks to foster collaboration among stakeholders to address health challenges.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
He stressed the importance of a unified and interdisciplinary approach by all actors in the health sector to confront these challenges and develop sustainable solutions for a better environment conducive to human and animal survival.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div>
Wishing both the facilitators and participants a successful training exercise, Professor Abubakar urged them to make good use of the training by engaging in fruitful discussions and experience sharing to enhance their understanding and improve their performance and service delivery, not only for the benefit of Gombe State but also for the country as a whole.<\/div>

In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperatives, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Usman, acknowledged the contributions of the L-PRES Project towards revitalizing the livestock sector in the state. He commended them for initiating such a training under the One Health platform, which included key players from both the public and private sectors, including environmentalists, animal health specialists, and human health specialists.<\/div>

He also praised Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for the recent Annual Vaccination Campaign against livestock diseases, which has significantly contributed to curtailing livestock diseases and improving animal health services in the state.<\/div>

The training, which drew participants from multiple disciplines, featured presentations from resource persons and provided opportunities for group discussions on typical case studies to enhance their knowledge and expertise in tackling emerging health challenges in the state.<\/div>
